From the Faraway Nearby (1988)

Composed for the opening concert of Epicycle: an ensemble for new music on April 24, 1988. The title takes its name from a painting by Georgia O'Keefe depicting a powerful and surrealistic set of antlers crowning the skull of a long-since departed imaginary being. In the three sections of this work, one can trace an outline of a once vibrant life transformed by time into a symbol of wonder and strength. Dedicated to Louise Brown.
